Baby Basics

Today, we went to a parenting class called Baby Basics. The first part of the class we watched a video about the different things babies need during the first few months of their life, and then we practiced fake bathing fake babies, and swaddling them and changing their diapers. Here's a video I took of Eric practicing swaddling...

We also learned about things that are normal to be seen on a newborn, such has "stork bites" (red marks on their face and neck), puffy eyes, and a cone-shaped head. Although, if my baby comes out with a cone-shaped head, I have to say, I might be a bit disturbed... no matter how "normal" it may be! Towards the end of the session, we learned about what kind of poop to look for in different stages. Our instructor assured us that we would one day be very interested in every kind of poop... yellow poop, green poop, grainy poop, watery poop... the list went on. And on. And on.

After lunch, we spent the afternoon learning about breastfeeding. I was very proud of Eric for paying attention almost the whole time. It was only towards the end, when they were talking about breast pumps, that Eric started to get restless (or maybe it was the fact that UConn was tipping off at just that moment!) We were both in awe of some of the facts we learned; it truly is amazing how God created mother's bodies to provide the exact nutrition that babies need. I also didnt know that depending on what the baby needs at what time, breast milk changes. So, when the baby is going through a growth spurt, there are more calories; or when the baby is sick, there are more antibodies. Now, that's pretty cool.

A great weekend!

My parents and my cousin Ashlea came to Fayetteville this weekend to help us put Hannah's room together. It's still a work in progress, but we're loving it so far! We had the room painted this past week, and the final pieces of baby furniture came in on Friday, so my parents were able to pick it up in Tulsa before they came to town. Ashlea will be moving to Fayetteville this fall to go to school at the University of Arkansas... and we are excited that she will definitely be Hannah's favorite babysitter!

Also, this weekend, our new china hutch got delivered and while it has absolutely nothing to do with the baby, we were equally excited about it. We have been going to the Ashley Furniture Home Store almost every other week to look at it since we first saw it over a year ago, and Eric came up with the idea to surprise me with it a couple of weekends ago. (He is brilliant, that hubby of mine!). Unfortunately, it had to be ordered, but it came this weekend and it was just what our dining room was missing. Now we are feeling like our house is getting more and more complete... which is nice, because I'm thinking that once Hannah gets here, we won't have much time to work on it!

Finally, today, I came to the conclusion that my baby bump has been getting bigger by the day... and I still have two months left! But, I'm not going to complain because so far my pregnancy has been pretty easy, (well, besides the nausea that came back as soon as I mentioned it going away) and I'm thankful Hannah is growing big and happy in my belly!

New Hannah Ultrasound Pictures

Sorry this took a few days...

And here is a short video I made. The music is kind of soft...
